If your actions had a message, what would it be?
I firmly believe that we need to live as though we are the only Bible that someone may read. The way we live our lives must come straight from the pages of the Bible itself and leave no doubt in anyone’s mind as to what we believe and who we serve.
I was reminded of this the other day as I read an entry from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” titled “Have A Message and Be One.” That simple truth is so strong on its own, but it was followed by 2 Timothy 4:2 which states,”Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season” Then, he went on to say, “We are not turned into spiritual mediums, but into spiritual messengers.” We must spread His message!
I like what my study Bible says about preaching; it is the God-ordained means to prevent defection from the truth. “But I’m not a preacher!” you say. Well, we all know the adage, “Actions speak louder than words” and it’s very true. Many times people are more inclined to see if you live your faith rather than hear you speak about it. They don’t necessarily want to be preached at, but they’d love to catch you not living your words.
We must guard our message and keep it pure. If people see consistency and unconditional love pouring out of us, they’ll eventually seek the source. But, too many times I’ve heard people say, “See, that’s why I’m not a Christian!” because they’re seeing too much of us and not enough of God.
So, if they refuse to read God’s word, let us strive to show it it them!
